Rocio's Story
Dear Friends,
I was a bored teenager in
church every Sunday. Then I met a new friend named Jesus, thanks to people like
you.
I hope you'll give me one minute of your time because I'm
not a fundraiser, just a High School senior. And when I tell you my story I
think you'll realize you can make miracles happen...
My name is Rocio. I’m a good student from a
Catholic Family. My parents have always taken me, my sister and three brothers
to church. I was raised to believe in God, but I kinda had my doubts, because I
had never felt God’s touch on my heart. I wanted to experience that
relationship.
At church I heard about a weekend retreat at Youth With a
Mission. My hunger for God made me want to go, but when you’re one of five
children you can’t afford $100 retreats. Besides, it was on my senior
homecoming weekend. How would you make that decision? Was the retreat really
worth missing my senior homecoming?
You can imagine my surprise when my priest offered to cover
the registration! That was the first miracle. Then I reasoned with myself that
homecoming lasts only a night but this retreat experience would last a
lifetime. So I decided to go.
I felt very welcome at the YWAM Camp. The people, the
cabins, the music and the teaching all spoke to me. Have you ever heard someone teach at church or a retreat and
God really touched your heart? That's what happened when they taught on “The
Broken Heart of Jesus.”
It hit me, someone out there cares about me and wants me to
have a bright future. God started working a change, a conversion experience,
salvation in my heart: a second miracle!
I know I made the right decision to go, because I’ve really
learned about God and I’ve learned about me too.
Since the retreat I’m making sure I involve Jesus in
everything I do, not just Sundays. I’m having a quiet time of prayer and Bible reading. I’m sharing Jesus
and His word with my friends. They see a difference in me.
On Sundays when I take Communion I actually think about
Jesus at the Last Supper.
I used to doubt myself a lot and now I know He’s right
beside me in everything I do and I shouldn’t be scared anymore.
Before
I went to the retreat I just went through the movements.
I really wasn’t
experiencing the moment.
You know, I volunteered to write this letter because I have
been given so many graces. I was given a chance to follow God’s call to go
deeper. See the video below I did in Spanish.
I’m hoping today that you’ll join me in encouraging other
teens who need to take that big step toward God. Please send a gift to
Kerygma Texas today so that a teen can answer God’s call. The next Youth Aflame Retreat will be in November and the current cost is $142 per student.
As a youth who has already experienced this conversion in
my heart, I can tell you that you will be making a wonderful – and very
important – gift.
And you know, when you help kids through Kerygma, you also
help dozens of people who love that kid. Their prayer is to see their teen
follow God with all their heart.
Please, while you have my letter in front of you, take a look at the reply page and learn how you can send your gift. By doing so you fulfill a
precious teen’s prayer.
Yours Sincerely
Rocio
