To Know God and Make Him Known

SST Phase One: Houston (pg. 4).

We prayed the last night back in Montrose under a big oak tree, for revival to break out right there and heal Houston. Doing street ministry far away from home is as much a fantasy escape for me as a Caribbean vacation.

In both cases you leave your routine schedule and pressures and responsibilities. You do things you usually don’t do at home, either more pleasurable or more painful. The only pain in street work is walking past your fears of people and your pride. It would be good to do that every day at home as well.

These street folks aren't afraid to talk and receive prayer. They are lonely.

I saw several men on repeat occasions throughout the week. The only thing to fear is the devil, but I only sensed him once.

I saw people troubled by him but the power of Jesus is greater.
Lori and I both made special connections.
When I got back home to Tyler, I took a bag of clothes to the Goodwill. I didn't even look the man in the eye who walked up to my car to take it. I realized he could be another homeless man, just like in Houston and I treated him like a vending machine.
What's wrong with our mindset? Jesus didn't have a street ministry that he did a few weeks a year or one day a week. He lived a lifestyle of loving and caring. I am challenged to do something different. I need to get past my stubborn self that doesn't want to be bothered and reach out daily.

It's easy to schedule a safe event in your air conditioned home or your church. We do it all the time. You advertise by text, email and Facebook, then just sit and wait for the interested to show up  Instead, try this: Get out where it’s uncomfortable and find the people who wouldn’t ever come to your home or church. Enter someone’s personal space everyday to share what you know about Jesus. Take a challenge! YOU go to THEM. That's what the disciples did. Should we do any less? That's what I need to do. How about you?
