On most afternoons we got to know a
group of kids at an apartment project in
Houston’s
“Fifth Ward.”
We sang songs, did skits, Bible memory
verses, played games, made crafts and sweated a lot!
Wednesday night we served at “Street
Reach” in the geographic center of
Houston,
the Montrose district.
It is probably the most wicked
neighborhood in the city with homeless, drugs, gays, transvestites and
prostitutes.
SST pulls all staff and students out of their box of comfortable life. It says, “We're GOING on outreach this particular week. We WILL go to people and ask what they want prayer for.” That doesn't happen in daily life where we blend in the world and do our own thing.
Our group also made time just to pray over specific places in town.
We stood outside the new Planned Parenthood facility; the
largest abortion mill in the U.S. God was praised as we called for the
forces of darkness to be broken and lives to be spared.
We went into the Chase tower, the tallest building in Houston and prayed over downtown from 60 floors up.
