2008 News Archives: The Very Beginning
Ministry
Update December 16, 2008 by Alan
The Writing School is over. Lori and I have
been attending since October 1. We had our
closing "Love Feast"
tonight at Potpourri House in Tyler. Very
Nice. The school was very beneficial
as mentioned below. Now we're at Ground
Zero for going to India. In one month
we need to be headed for the airport. We
took the three younger kids to the
health dept. today and all five of us got
shots. All are little sore in the
arm, or arms, tonight. We mailed off for
Visas to India for the same group
today also. Charlie is home from
LeTourneau, Sam is out of Jr. College.
Charlotte? She's in Ft. Worth. Juanita is
on outreach half way around the
world. Pray for all our kids. Be sure to
see the new video versions of Lori's
radio interview, finished today. Have a
great week.
Ministry
Update December 8, 2008 by Alan
People come up to me and say things like, "Well
it's all going
to happen real soon!" and "Are
you all set to
go?"
I
appreciate their excitement, but I don't
feel they grasp what we're really
doing. We are missionaries RIGHT NOW. We
ARE YWAM staff already, having been
working at the Woodcrest base for two
months. This is what we do. We are
praying and training with our home staff
and fellow students.
Since
October 1 we have been full students in the
School of Writing, which has been
wonderful. Lori and I are feeling our
writing skills and desire bloom as we
learn how to "think"
as writers. Last week we
enjoyed a week with screenplay writer Kevin
Miller. It really opened up our
minds to how movies are written, and
stories in general. I'm looking forward to
writing better articles and speeches after
this school.
We need to hear from those who want to
partner with our ministry on a monthly
basis. We are excited about what God is
doing in our lives.

Lori and I made our first road trip since
joining YWAM the weekend of Nov 7-9, 2008.
Friday
Nov 7 we drove to Dallas TX where Lori
recorded a 15 minute interview
on Guadalupe Radio to be broadcast Saturday
morning. She spoke with
Dave Palmer, station manage about YWAM and
bringing Kerygma teams to
U.S. Catholics. To hear the interview, click here,
or go to Audio and Video page.
Friday
night we had dinner with friends Tom and
Sue Cyr in Grand
Prairie and their friend Craig Guidry. We
shared YWAM videos about DTS and SST. They
asked a lot of
great questions to help us be better
prepared to explain our new work.
Saturday
we drove to San Antonio and met with old
friends and spoke
at Windsor Park Assembly of God. Old
friend, Steve
Corder, is the pastor. They were in the
second week of their Missions
Convention. We shared the platform with the
Gideons, and the youth
group who had just done a 30 hour fast for
missions.
Lori and I both shared the YWAM vision.
Afterward they had a great fundraiser,
auctioning off two tables of killer deserts
for anywhere
from $3 to $100, all for missions.
Sunday
night we returned to
Dallas to have dinner with a former YWAM
K-Team leader from the base in
Holland. We were excited to learn more
about what we're trying to bring
to the United States.
Thanks
to everyone for a fantastic weekend.
