Spring
is here and everything is turning green in East Texas. When the pollen comes
out we always ask God, “Why Texas?”

Well,
God is doing great things in Texas. The doors of the Catholic Church are open
and Bishop Corrada stands in them welcoming us. All over the world our friends
are surprised at what we’re blessed to do. Now in our third year of serving the
Diocese, we’re seeing more churches accept our help. |
|
|
We
offer events. First there are big events where we invite any and everyone to
our location. These can be weekend youth retreats or Healing Masses. The second
style of event is where we travel to one specific church. Mostly
these are confirmation retreats and they are going well. |
Confirmation
retreats are a required event for a group of youngsters who are counting down
to their confirmation date. Every church needs one, but some will use an
outside group to help. This has been a golden opportunity for us to provide our
talents and resources. |
|
|
We’re
able to bring in an assortment of volunteer staff to lead children and teens
separately: game leaders, craft leaders, musicians and prayer team. These are
drawn from our Charismatic Prayer Group, church friends, Teen Mania grads and
YWAMers. It’s a very ecumenical effort. |
Now
that we have gained notoriety, we’re getting more calls for these in-church
retreats, which easily draw over 30 kids per church. That’s a lot of young
hearts to minister to and pray with. |
|
|
The
more youth leaders we help in this way, the more inclined they will be to send
their youth to our Diocese-wide youth rallies and retreats.
|
We
had a fine youth rally in February, complete with a worship band……..
|
|
|
….catered
box lunch, field games, teachings and testimonies. |
How
can you help? If you’re in East Texas, get on our helper list. These Saturday
events are a lot of fun. Come out and love some kids. |

Think
it’s a great ministry but you’re too far away? You could help us out
financially. We are going to Ireland in June for re-training with our Kerygma
family (read REBOOT below). We always need more monthly support too. We need a
van to transport youth and staff to events and outreaches. Become one of our
sponsors. |
What
ever you do this Spring, do it for the Lord. Be bold and aggressive. Step out
in your own calling. These are wild times in our world.
Sincerely,
Alan and Lori Harris

It’s
time to "reboot." (I looked reboot up on
Google)
“When installing certain applications or
programs, a computer may need to reboot…. “
It’s time for Kerygma Texas to reboot and
get a fresh restart. We started this ministry just over two
years ago. We went and met the other YWAM people from around the world and
figured out how all this Catholic oriented YWAM works. That
gathering was in India in 2009.
The
greater Kerygma Teams family will once again regroup for over a week of
training in a few months. We will meet in Northern Ireland to learn more about
working brother with brother and be encouraged at our new centre there.
The
"Global Gathering" will take place in An Cuan,
Rostrevor located on the site of the former “Christian Renewal Centre.“ Founded
in 1974, the CRC was a beacon of light for Protestants and Catholics from all
over Ireland. In the midst of one of the darkest periods in Ireland’s history,
the centre became synonymous with reconciliation, prayer, and spiritual
renewal.
Nestled in Northern Ireland beneath Slieve
Martin and the Mourne Mountains, it overlooks the scenic Carlingford Lough and
the Irish Republic to the South. It is family-friendly and an ideal location
for retreats, training schools, and programs like our Global Gathering. An Cuan
now serves as the Ireland headquarters of Youth With A Mission.
We will come together in this central
location to have teaching geared to our unique ministry. We will be with others
who face the same challenges as us working in the Catholic world as
missionaries. We don’t get that in the U.S. We will present to the
international team what we have accomplished and learned in our two hard years
of service here in East Texas. We’re excited. God has done wonderful things. We
need to reflect upon that, compare stories with other pioneers and receive
valuable new tools to continue in our adventure here in the States.
We need your help to get to this unique
assembly. We must fly there and pay the modest fees for room, board and
training.
While
we are in Ireland we will learn first hand of reconciliation experiences
between Protestants
and Catholics. We want to deepen our burden for more openness between U.S.
believers.
We need to get our tickets soon and pay our
registration.
